TO GUIDANCE COUNSELOR OR GOVERNMENT INSTRUCTOR:
All forms and information are available via the internet at www.alaky.org, or through your local American Legion Auxiliary Unit. New forms are being used to facilitate greater availability to our Units and to the schools who are being represented.
Since the forms are being made available via the internet, IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT THE REGISTRATION FORMS BE PROPERLY SIGNED BY A SCHOOL REPRESENTATIVE AND THE UNIT PRESIDENT OR GIRLS STATE CHAIRMAN. At the time the registration form is submitted, the media release, and social networking policy must be provided. A background information form is optional. The medical form is required and must be submitted no more than 14 days prior to the commencement of Girls State. The registration form should be used for both delegates and alternates, with appropriate information checked. The deadline for registration is May 15,2025.
Enrollment in the ALA Kentucky Girls State Program is open to young women which have completed their junior year of school without interruption. The program is developed for residents of Kentucky, students enrolled in the Kentucky Schools, Department of Defense Schools located outside of the United States, or students from nearby states which have met their capacity of Girls State attendees. The registration fee is $350 and covers meals, lodging, and the transportation to Frankfort while at the program. The initial transportation to the campus and to return to the participant’s home is not included.
Applications submitted directly to the ALA Kentucky Girls State Program will require submission of a letter of recommendation for the student by a school representative.
FACTS ABOUT GIRLS STATE
1. 76th Session to be held June 2nd – 6th, 2025.
2. Held at Western Kentucky University, Bowling Green, KY.
3. This is interactive training in the governmental process. Activities include role play as government officials.
a. Federalist or Nationalist Party member
b. Assigned to House of Representatives or Senate
c. Run for elected city and state offices. d. Live in mythical cities e. Delegates write bills and are highly encouraged to email (alakygs.legislative@gmail.com) or bring bills to Girls State.
4. Supervisors are American Legion Auxiliary volunteers and ALA Kentucky Girls State Alumnae
5. Registration begins at 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. CDT, Monday, June 3rd. Lunch will be available for attendees after their registration. The closing session on Friday, June 6th will adjourn at approximately 10:00 a.m. CDT.
CRITERIA FOR DELEGATES TO GIRLS STATE
1. Progressed through grade 11 without interruption or retention.
2. Must be a legal resident of the United States.
3. Must be interested in government and demonstrate leadership characteristics.
4. Must be willing and able to fully participate in the entire program. ANY LATE ARRIVALS OR EARLY DEPARTURES WILL FORFEIT THEIR BEING ABLE TO RUN FOR AN OFFICE WHILE AT GIRLS STATE, REGARDLESS OF THE REASON.
5. Participants in the Governor’s Scholar Program are welcome to attend; however, due to schedule conflicts would be ineligible for selection to attend Girls Nation in Washington, DC, in July 19 to July 26, 2025.
SAMSUNG SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be offered again this year. Information regarding this scholarship is available from the American Legion’s website at: http://www.legion.org/scholarships/samsung. All applications must be completed and submitted online. The system will lock at midnight June 3rd and only completed applications will be judged. The link for the scholarship application is: http://www.legion.org/samsung-scholarship-application. There will be 10 winners of $10,000 awarded nationally. Ten National Runners-up will receive $5,000 in scholarship, and each State Finalist will receive $1,250.
